Tubman topic of Milton
Historical Society lecture
Harriet Tubman and Sussex County in the 1850s: Some Known and Possible Links is the topic of a lecture/discussion from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25, at the Milton Historical Society, 210 Union St.

The Underground Railroad Coalition of Delaware (URCD) invites the public to attend this program.

Researchers and educators Pat Lewis and John Creighton of Cambridge, Md. will discuss their decades of inquiry into possible routes of Harriet Tubman and freedom seekers passing from Maryland into Delaware in the southern portion of the state.

They will also highlight some of the African Americans known to have helped Tubman in her exploits, such as Thomas Otwell near Bridgeville; the Rev. Samuel Green near New Market, Dorchester County, Md.; and, Benjamin Ross (Tubman’s father) who lived near Preston in Caroline County, Md.

The event is free and open to the public.
