Gearing up for winter’s hottest entertainment event, Starboard owner Steve “Monty” Montgomery and Jim Baeurle of Dewey Beach Enterprises prepare to host the Second Annual Dewey Beach Winter Gala to benefit the town’s police and lifeguards, 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Baycenter in Ruddertowne.
“It is a joy to work so hard with so many great people to pull off this winter gala, not only to raise money for our local police department and lifeguards, but also to show them our appreciation for all they do to provide safety in this town we love so much,” said Montgomery.
Montgomery says he hopes to top the $10,000 donation raised with a sellout crowd in 2009 and promises an outstanding night of great fun and entertainment. “With Jimi Smooth & Hit Time, John Eddie and Jellyroll taking the stage for three action-packed sets, it is sure to be one outstanding time for all in attendance,” he noted. Police Chief Sam Mackert and Beach Patrol Captain Todd Fritchman say they are grateful for the additional funds and the positive impact on staff morale.
Fritchman said lifeguards used the 2009 donation for many purposes, including paying expenses for Dewey’s successful lifeguard team as it competed in regional and national competitions, replacing and maintaining equipment for their youth recreation program that served thousands of children throughout the summer and assisting with the purchase of junior lifeguard uniforms.
“The funds are not part of the Dewey Beach operating budget and are not intended to cover everyday operations,” Montgomery said. “They are strictly intended for our police and lifeguards to purchase items they want that improve their performance and help them as they help us maintain a safe Dewey Beach.”
In addition to entertainment, the $85 tickets for this black tie-optional, jacket required event include heavy hors d’oeuvres and open specialty bars for martinis, bourbons, wines, an ice luge and more. Additional information is available at 302-226-1680 or at thestarboard.com. Tickets are available online and will be held at the door the night of the event.
