The Holiday Inn Express Rehoboth will celebrate recent renovations and greening efforts during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, with an open house to follow.
Certified as a Delaware green lodging facility, the Holiday Inn Express Rehoboth saved 60,160 kilowatt hours when comparing energy use from 2008 to 2009. This constitutes a difference of 12 percent, enough energy to power five average U.S. homes for an entire year. The Holiday Inn Express Rehoboth also saved 551 cubic feet of propane gas - 4.9 percent of its average annual usage.
Among the green efforts implemented at the Holiday inn Express Rehoboth include single-stream recycling bins; motion detectors in guest laundry, housekeeping and vending areas; trash receptacles in guest rooms without liners; laundry and cleaning products that are phosphate-free, plant-based, pH neutral, gray-water/septic safe and free from caustics, ammonia and chlorine; and many other ways to preserve the environment.
The hotel is at at 19953 Shuttle Road on the south side of Route 1. The ceremony will be sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce.
