Gov. Jack Markell announced the state of emergency continues to be in effect until further notice. The travel restrictions for operating motor vehicles on the roads of Delaware will be lifted at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6.
The modification is intended to allow critical commercial activities and travel on major routes as they become passable, and to allow people without power to travel to seek shelter if they are able to do so. However, motorists are still strongly advised to stay off the roads. In some areas, local restrictions remain in place, so drivers should check with local authorities.
"While some travel is becoming necessary, many roads are still not safe. Please do not put yourself and others at risk by driving needlessly," said Markell. "Our teams are working very hard. Staying off the roads will help them do their jobs more safely and effectively."
Due to the intensity and duration of the snowfall, snowplowing activities have been limited to major highway routes. Abandoned vehicles from roads in affected areas may be towed at the owner's expense, and private-sector businesses are urged to consider the safety of employees when deciding when to resume operations.
