Delaware Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock recently announced his selection for the new director of the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford. William Peterson Jr. of Newark brings with him 23 years of long-term care experience in a variety of roles in both state and private-sector facilities.
Peterson has been a licensed nursing home administrator for more than 16 years and is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Administrators.
Currently the executive director of the Sunrise Senior Living Center in Wilmington.
Peterson has served as administrator at a number of other private long-term care institutions in Delaware, including the Brandywine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gilpin Hall and Arbors at New Castle.
In addition, he previously worked for the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services in a number of supervisory roles for more than 15 years.
“We received applications from many accomplished nursing home administrators,” said Bullock.
“Our hiring committee, which included members of the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs, held two rounds of interviews to make sure we chose the right person for this important job. I believe we found exactly what we were looking for in Bill Peterson.
“Throughout his career, Mr. Peterson has consistently delivered quality results while being heavily involved in every aspect of long-term care.
“In directing and monitoring overall facility operations, he has worked closely with residents, their families, staff and the community to provide the best care possible to residents.”
Peterson served in the Maryland Army National Guard for six years as a member of the 729th Maintenance Battalion HQ.
The new director will officially assume his duties Monday, March 8.
