| The Comfort Zone Center for Whole Self Healing is hosting ayurvedic practitioners Kim Larson and Terrel Broussard from Saturday, March 13, through Wednesday, March 17.
Ayurvedic consultations and treatments will be offered by appointment at the center, as well as a class called Vibrant Living: Yoga and Ayurvedic Practices for Finding Balance in Spring.
No prior familiarity with ayurveda is necessary, and it is appropriate for all people regardless of health status or age.
The ayurvedic consultation includes identifying the primary dosha - or body type - of each person, addressing current imbalances in the body and offering lifestyle suggestions.
The treatments are tailored to each individual and include renewing massage, cleansing therapies and dosha balancing bodywork. Prices range from $55 to $135. Treatments include immediate and long-lasting results.
The class, which will be from noon to 3 p.m., March 13, will focus on springtime, the kapha season, which is the natural season for cleansing and renewal.
Practitioners will explore the reasons behind common springtime ailments and teach participants how to use yoga and daily practices to reclaim health and vitality. The class is also an introduction to ayurveda. The cost is $40; preregistration is required.
Ayurveda, the science (veda) of life (ayur), is the sister science to yoga, concentrating on healthy digestion, a balanced lifestyle and herbs, food and spices as medicines for maintaining balance without side effects. It is noninvasive and can be safely used alongside conventional treatment if necessary.
The goals are prevention, maintenance and balance. The practice addresses common health complaints such as immunity, diabetes, obesity, acne, heart disease, high blood pressure, skin problems, anxiety and ulcers. Ayurveda also regulates energy levels and sleep requirements, which can result in better focus, feeling livelier throughout the day and having more restful sleep at night.
For those ready to start healing others, Kim and Terrel will also be teaching a weeklong course on becoming an ayurvedic practitioner. Visit comfortzoneyogacenter.com for details.
