National Wildlife Week marked
The National Wildlife Federation marks its 72nd annual National Wildlife Week by asking Americans to get outside, whether that means climbing trees, chasing butterflies or simply enjoying nature.

In the First State, the Delaware Nature Society is celebrating the week - March 15-21 - with a full slate of programs and activities.

“In some respects every week is National Wildlife Week at the Delaware Nature Society,” said Mike Riska, executive director of the society.

“Throughout the year we offer programs that celebrate wildlife, ranging from dip-netting at the DuPont Environmental Education Center to bird-watching at Burrows Run Preserve. And we’ve made a special effort to offer even more educational opportunities related to wildlife during the week of March 15.” Youth can enjoy an owl prowl at Abbott’s Mill near Milford Thursday, March 18, or pursue activities in other areas of the state.

During National Wildlife Week, a range of school groups also will take part in programming at Delaware Nature Society locations, to learn about such topics ranging from maple sugaring to reptiles. Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups will be celebrating the week at overnight and field trip events.
