All Saints’ Episcopal Church on Olive Avenue in Rehoboth Beach is hosting a free vacation Bible school, with volunteers from St. George’s Episcopal Chapel, St. Edmond’s Roman Catholic Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church. The sessions are from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, July 19-23. Children from 4 years old to fifth graders are invited.
The theme this year is High Seas Adventure...Exploring The Mighty Love of God. To register children, call the All Saints’ parish office at 227-7202. The four churches involved are providing the crew needed to make sure the children have a safe and happy time.
All Saints’ Rector the Rev. Max Wolf and Shannon Sugrue, All Saints’ member, are chairing the event. “We’ll have 50 volunteers or crew members from the four churches,” Wolf said.
The All Saints’ sanctuary, parish hall and even the volunteers’ outfits will have a nautical theme. “The children will see images of Jesus by the sea, in a boat and other water scenes,” Wolf said. “We have a large stained-glass window in our sanctuary showing Jesus and some fishermen in a boat with the title, ‘Even the wind and seas obey Him.’”
Stories, Bible verses, crafts, music and healthy snacks will all be a part of the learning process for the vacation Bible school. The rector’s wife, Olly Wolf, has a garden next to the church where children will play games.
“Each day, we’ll raise the mast with the theme for that day printed on it for the sailboat we’ll have in our sanctuary,” Wolf said. “There will be opening and closing prayers. On Friday, we’ll close with a pizza party. We want to plant the seeds of faith in the children. They’ll learn the Lord’s prayer as said by the participating churches. Learning will be fun as children learn about their faith in comfortable surroundings. We want to teach the children about the joy of faith.”
