2018 Jazz Festivals, Apple Scrapple Headline Oct. 12-14 in Southern Delaware

October 10, 2018

As we continue with southern Delaware's busy fall festival season, this weekend features more of the area's premier annual events, with multiple locations around Lewes and Rehoboth Beach highlighting smooth jazz and great food.

But while the 2018 Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, and the competing True Blue Jazz Festival, are certainly the headliners this weekend, they are by far the only shows in town.

There's one of the region's most well attended annual festivals happening in Bridgeville, as well as the largest Corvette Club gathering on the East Coast in Ocean City and a great annual get-together from the fun folks at C.A.M.P. Rehoboth.

Whatever your choice, there's certainly plenty to do during this second weekend of October in coastal Delaware, as well as across the state line in Ocean City, Maryland.

As always, we're here to keep you up to date on what's happening in the local area through our "Weekender Blog," brought to you every week by the Oldfather Group of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby's International Realty.

Let's get right to it. Here's what's on tap for this weekend in and around the coastal region:

Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival (Oct. 11-14). This popular annual event always brings record crowds to coastal Delaware, with many nationally known jazz musicians, as well as countless local favorites, taking the stage each year.

Shows for 2018 will be held at eight venues located throughout both Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach. They include Cape Henlopen High School, the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center and Epworth United Methodist Church, as well as the Rusty Rudder and the Bottle & Cork and more.

True Blue Jazz Festival (Oct. 10-14). Also in the spotlight this weekend is the 2018 True Blue Jazz Festival, which is celebrating its sixth year and focuses on what organizers call "a commitment to real, straight-ahead jazz."

This event runs from Wednesday through Sunday and is centered in Rehoboth Beach. Venues include the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, Bethany Blues, the Atlantic Sands and C.A.M.P. Rehoboth, among others.

Headlining this year's festival are Bobby Sanabria and Wycliffe Gordon, who will be performing on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13, respectively.

Apple Scrapple Festival (October 12-13).This is one of the biggest events of southern Delaware's fall festival season and is one surely not to be missed. Ranked by national publications as one of the top 100 festivals in the United States, this quirky event centers on the two things tiny Bridgeville is known for – T.S. Smith Apples and RAPA Scrapple.

Activities include a car show, food vendors, craft vendors, carnival rides, live music and a special "Scrapple Slinging" contest among many of the area's mayors and civic leaders.

This year marks the 27th anniversary of the event and is still FREE to attend and also FREE to park.
