5 Great Wintertime Happenings Featured on this Weekend’s Coastal Events Calendar

January 16, 2019

A glimpse out the window over the last few days left no doubt what time of year it is here in Delaware and Maryland’s coastal region. We hope everyone got outside and enjoyed the recent Winter Wonderland, or perhaps a nice and relaxing snow day off from work or school.

But now that the first winter storm of the season has come and gone, let’s look ahead to what’s on tap for the next few days here in the coastal region.

We have some fun things to tell you about for this weekend, so let’s jump right into it and tell you all about these great upcoming events.

We have five highlighted events for the weekend of January 18-20 at the Delaware and Maryland beaches. Who says there’s nothing going on during the Winter months, eh?

To begin, we head to the resort town of Dewey Beach to tell you all about one of the offseason’s most popular events…

Winter Beach Bash at the Rusty Rudder (January 19). Scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. this Saturday, January 19, at the Rusty Rudder, this annual event is organized by the Surfgimp Foundation and benefits people with disabilities who want to pursue their dreams.

Tickets for this charitable event cost $50 and include dinner, a four hour open bar, some fantastic live reggae music and a silent auction. And if you want to stay the night, the nearby Hyatt Dewey Beach is offering special room rates on Saturday evening.

Delmarva Art Expo (January 19-20).  For our next highlighted event that’s happening this third weekend in January, we head south to Maryland’s favorite resort town of Ocean City and the Roland E. Powell Convention Center.

Scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, this weekend features the 2019 Delmarva Art Expo and is also one of the best wintertime events here in the coastal region.

Dozens of vendors from throughout the mid-Atlantic will be on hand displaying their wares in a wide variety of categories, ranging from artwork to photography and everything in between.

Hours for this weekend’s event are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $3 for one day or $5 for both days.

MLK Weekend Parade (January 19). Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this weekend in the “First Town in the First State.”

With a 2019 theme of “Keeping the Dream Alive: Never Lose Hope,” the weekend is highlighted by a parade through downtown Lewes on Saturday, January 19, beginning at 11 a.m.

Other events for the holiday weekend include a banquet at Georgetown’s Cheer Center on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., and a community worship service at St. John 2nd Baptist Church in Millsboro on Monday at 10 a.m.
