A Big Weekend Planned for the Coastal Region - Chocolate Festival, St. Patrick's Day Events, Cherry Blossom Beach Fest all on the Calendar

March 11, 2020

Spring is in the air this weekend at the Delaware and Maryland beaches, with all kinds of fun things scheduled at locations throughout the region.

Highlights for this second weekend of March include the area's sweetest smelling annual event in downtown Rehoboth Beach, as well as St. Patrick's Day festivities in both Ocean City and Milford, and a few other fun events in the "Nation's Summer Capital."

We all "Sprang Forward" last weekend, which is a sure sign that activities and excitement in Delaware and Maryland's coastal region is about to pick up in earnest. And that starts this weekend, so get out there and have a great time at and near the beaches!

Okay, let's get right to it! We begin in downtown Rehoboth and one of the headline events for the first quarter of the year...

Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Festival (March 14). This Saturday, March 14, is the 30th anniversary of what is certainly the sweetest tasting annual event in the "Nation's Summer Capital" of Rehoboth Beach.

Scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Atlantic Sands Hotel and Conference Center on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, this community event will once again support the good work being done at the Harry K. Foundation, with several local restaurants and residents taking part.

This year's "First Taste" begins at 11 a.m., and the event runs through the awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m.

There will be nine judged categories for 2020, including Brownie, Cake, Candy, Chocolate Beverage, Cookie, Ice Cream, Pie, Other and Showpiece (non-edible). Ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third place in each category.

Tickets for the 2020 Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Festival start at $25, with all proceeds helping hungry Delaware children through the Harry K. Foundation.

For more information, or to purchase tickets, call Karen Francis at 302.226.0675, purchase in person at Atlantic Jewelry on the Boardwalk or visit the Harry K. Foundation online.

Ocean City St. Patrick's Day Parade (March 14). Sponsored by the Delmarva Irish-American Club, this annual St. Patrick's Day event will begin promptly at noon on Saturday, March 14.

The parade begins at 60th Street and heads south to 45th Street, where the judging stand is located and also where the Irish Festival will be taking place.

Visit www.delmarvairish.org for more information on this year's parade and festival.

Milford St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl (March 14). This 10th annual event has become a fun tradition in Milford over the years, with local businesses, restaurants and breweries all participating in the Saint Patrick’s Day festivities.

The event is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m., on Saturday, March 14, all throughout the downtown area of Milford.

This year's "Crawl" will feature downtown businesses hosting beverage tastings from local breweries and wineries, as well as samples of unique food and drinks, live entertainment, bar and restaurant specials and much more.
