Coastal Cuisine Spotlight: Holiday Gift Giving With Sposato Wines!

December 7, 2018

Dictionary.com describes the term “enthusiast” as a “person of ardent zeal”. Thusly, a “wine enthusiast” would be someone with ardent zeal for wine. Karen Howard Sposato of Sposato Family Vineyards is just that.

In fact, if you’ve seen her during one of her many public appearances throughout the region, she’s definitely enthusiastic when it comes to promoting the delicious wines that are produced by the family’s vineyard located in Mendoza, Argentina at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The province of Mendoza is the center of Argentina's wine making. In fact, in 2005, it was declared the great wine capital of the world.

Karen is also charismatic, witty, entertaining and incredibly well-versed when it comes to the Spostato Family Vineyard Wines - in particular - The Sposato Malbec Reserve.

In Argentina, the Malbec grape has become a "national variety" of a sort that is uniquely identified with Argentine wine. The Sposato Malbec Reserve is a delicious red wine, aged in oak barrels for 14 months, with a nose of raspberries, violets and blackberries along with notes of sweet spices.

In 2017, Coastal Cuisine Host Michael Sprouse approached Karen about featuring Sposato Family Vineyards wine in a holiday themed episode discussing how wine makes a great holiday, host/hostess gift or stocking stuffer. They had such a great time together filming the episode that they agreed to do it again this year.

This time around, Michael met Karen at the popular 1776 Steakhouse (located at 18585 Coastal Hwy #6 in Rehoboth Beach, DE.). The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays and it served as the perfect backdrop for the episode.

As before, Karen was “spot on” regaling the joys of Sposato Family Vineyard wine. Their on-camera discussion presented some excellent ideas of gifting the wine, especially when combined with some great little treasures from local merchants like Browseabout Books and Kilwin’s chocolate.

Karen also demonstrated some fun and clever holiday decorating techniques incorporating – of course – empty bottles of Sposato Family Vineyard wines with decorative lights, candles, and even some truly festive reindeer tree ornaments crafted from the leftover corks!

Fortunately, for us other local wine enthusiasts who looking for an excellent Argentinian wine with a local connection, Sposato Family Vineyard wine can be found in most of the wine and liquor stores along Route 1.

In this recent episode of Coastal Cuisine, join Host Michael Sprouse and Karen Howard-Sposato as they sip their way to holiday cheers with some great and easy gift/holiday decor ideas. And don’t forget – that cork will make for a mighty cute reindeer for the tree…
