The Coastal Region Celebrates America’s Independence With A Full Slate of Red, White & Blue Themed Events

July 3, 2019

Happy 4th of July Weekend everyone!

This week’s edition of our current events blog is definitely going to have a bit of a patriotic theme, as you might guess, as just about all of our featured events are related to the Independence Day holiday.

As the 4th is on Thursday, that means most of our “weekend” events are actually happening a little bit earlier in the week than usual. So give things a read below and make plans for not only the holiday itself, but also for the weekend that follows.

But first a quick note if you’re reading this on Wednesday, July 3. The Rehoboth Beach fireworks show, which we covered in last week’s blog, is planned for this evening at dusk. So if you want to see the biggest fireworks show of the season, check that out tonight in the “Nation’s Summer Capital.”

Okay, on to all of the red, white and blue themed events for Independence Day Weekend 2019. We have a good selection for you, spread throughout the region, so let’s get started.

Dewey Beach Fireworks (July 4). This year’s Dewey Beach fireworks show is scheduled for Thursday, July 4, on the bayside in front of Northbeach Restaurant & Bar.

Fireworks will be set off from a barge in Rehoboth Bay, with the show set to begin around 9 p.m.

Lewes Old Fashioned Fourth of July (July 4). The folks in Lewes have a full day of fun and family friendly activities scheduled for this year’s Independence Day celebration.

The Lewes Old Fashioned Fourth of July festivities include games on Second Street, the always enjoyable boat parade on the Lewes & Rehoboth Canal and the unpredictable, yet festive, Doo Dah Parade downtown.

The activities on Second Street will begin at 9 a.m., with the boat parade and the Doo Dah Parade following later in the day.

The day concludes with fireworks being shot off from a barge off Lewes Beach at dusk.

Bethany Beach Independence Day Festivities (July 4). This year marks the 35th anniversary of the 4th of July celebration in Bethany Beach, which is always highlighted by the parade downtown at high noon.

Bands featured in this year’s Independence Day parade include the Delmar District Pipe Bank, the 287th National Guard Army Band, the Downtown Dixieland Band, the German Oompah Band and the Oxford Brass, among others.

There will also be a performance by Jimi Smooth & the Hit Time Band at the Bandstand at 7:30, followed by fireworks at dusk.
