Delaware State Fair Kicks Off Its 101st Year on July 23; Eating Rehoboth Tours Return for 2020 Summer Season
While the Summer of 2020 rolls on at the Delaware and Maryland beaches, there’s also a big event kicking off this weekend just up the road a bit. It’s time once again for the Delaware State Fair, though there will be some changes in place this year due to continuing COVID-19 concerns.
Still, the fair rolls on with a concerted effort to make it a safe experience for everyone involved. We have more on this year’s fair below, so keep reading to learn how you and your family can have a fun day at the state fairgrounds in Harrington.
Back at the beaches, a summer like no other welcomes the last few days of July before transitioning into August. The beaches and the boardwalks in Rehoboth, Bethany and Ocean City continue to be the main draws as they are every summer, but there’s also still plenty to do once you conclude another fun-filled day on the beach.
We’ll delve into our choices for fun this coming weekend in just a moment, but first we would like to again stress the importance of supporting our local businesses in whatever way you can during what’s been a very challenging year.
We don’t want to see any of our locally owned and operated restaurants and shops disappear due to the effects of COVID-19. So if you have a chance to purchase a meal at a local restaurant or any other item at a local shop or boutique, please do so and help our local businesses survive 2020 and return stronger than ever in 2021.
Okay with that said, let’s move onto a few options for fun at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches for the weekend of July 24-26. We kick things off in Harrington and the 2020 Delaware State Fair:
Delaware State Fair (July 23-August 1). The 101st edition of the Delaware State Fair kicks off this Thursday and runs through Saturday, August 1, at the State Fairgrounds in Harrington.
As expected, this year’s fair will be different than previous years due to the COVID-19 situation, but organizers are pleased to be offering the fair to the public during a time when most other events are being cancelled.
There will be no grandstand entertainment this year, however, nor things like inflatable rides, some food vendors and many contests.
Attendees to the fair will be required to wear face coverings and organizers ask anyone who feels they may have been exposed to the coronavirus to stay at home as an issue of public safety.
Highlights of this year’s fair are expected to be free entertainment that includes Circus Hollywood, Disc-Connected K9s, the always popular Hollywood Racing Pigs and more.
The carnival is also back for 2020, featuring 44 rides. It will open each day at 1 p.m.
The 2020 Delaware State Fair features different ticketing and admission options than in years past, designed to spread attendance throughout the day and also to give fair goers less expensive options in response to current situations.
Admission to the fair this year is free of charge daily from 8 to 11 a.m., is half-price from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is the full price of $9 for adults and $4 for ages 6-12 after 4 p.m.

Eating Rehoboth Tours (Sundays). Very popular in the last few years, the Eating Rehoboth restaurant tours have now made a return for the rest of the 2020 summer season.
Tours run on Sundays and follow all mandated state guidelines, featuring some of the best and newest restaurants in downtown Rehoboth Beach.
These three-hour culinary adventures in the “Nation’s Summer Capital” offer exclusive food tastings at five of Rehoboth’s best eateries. The food selections are also paired with wines, local beers and/or signature cocktails.
Guides on these tours also inform participants about Rehoboth Beach history and how it became known as the “culinary coast” due to all of the great locally owned restaurants in the area.
Tickets for these weekly tours are $55 and include food at all five restaurants, a tour through the city and a lot of what organizers call “foodie fun.”

La Cage Aux Follies at Clear Space Theatre (July 24-August 27). After a bit of an opening delay due to the unique challenges the area is experiencing, this show is now open to the public at the fabulous Clear Space Theatre in downtown Rehoboth Beach.
The show will run through Thursday, August 27. In the past, it’s been featured both on Broadway and in London and remains one of the biggest hits of all time.
Performances run several evenings a week, with show time scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
