Downtown Milton Reopens This Weekend, With an Outdoor Party Planned for Thursday, June 4

June 3, 2020

The one-of-a-kind Summer of 2020 continues this week at the Delaware and Maryland beaches, and we do have several great calendar options to tell you about.

We realize this isn’t the kind of summer we’re all used to and frankly have come to expect. But with more restrictions being lifted each month, we’re excited and hopeful that this summer season can still create lasting memories at the beach that will last a lifetime.

With that goal in mind, we plow forward this first weekend of June to tell you about some great options for getting outside and having a good time in Delaware and Maryland’s coastal region.

So keep reading below for many ways that you can “Summer Safely” here at the beaches!

We begin in beautiful downtown Milton, where residents will be celebrating a “reopening” of sorts over the next few days.

Downtown Milton Reopening Party (June 4). Beautiful downtown Milton will be the site this Thursday evening, June 4, as the town and the community celebrate the reopening of the historic Milton Theatre and surrounding businesses.

This fun community event is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m., at the Milton Theatre Quayside, and will feature a happy hour and live music by the Al Frantic Solo. This event is rain or shine, but will be moved into the theatre in case of inclement weather, with social distancing rules and regulations in place.

Organizers ask that you bring your own chair, or you can reserve some of the facility’s new outdoor furniture if you prefer. Food and beverages will be available, including beer, wine and spiked drinks provided by the on-site beer garden, as well as hog dogs, popcorn, cookies, brownies and more.

Milton Theater Soft Reopening (June 4-7). A big part of the reopening of downtown Milton, featured above, is the return of shows and events at the historic and popular Milton Theatre.

The unquestioned cornerstone of Milton’s downtown historic district, the theatre is reopening on Wednesday, June 3, and will be once again featuring several events per week.

There will be temporary guidelines in place, however, due to the continuing health crisis. These include a maximum of 30 percent capacity in the theatre, the use of face masks and adherence to social distancing guidelines.

Shows for this first weekend back in business include “The Wizard of Oz” on June 3, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” on June 4, a live standup comedy show on Friday, June 5 and a drag show featuring Magnolia Applebottom on June 6.

Tickets for these shows are available by telephone only, by calling 302-684-3038.

Clearspace Theatre Tony Party Web-A-Thon (June 7). If you love the performing arts, or if you just want to take part in a fun community event, Rehoboth Beach’s Clearspace Theatre is hosting an on-line Tony Party on Sunday, June 7.

The event begins at 7 p.m., and will feature a number of local students and faculty members, with proceeds benefitting the programs of the local Arts Institute.
