Freeman Stage, Funland Both Making Plans to Open for the Remainder of the 2020 Summer Season
Several weeks into the Summer of 2020 and we hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather and the incredible beaches that make up the one-of-a-kind coastal regions of both Delaware and Maryland.
It’s been a challenging spring and summer for all of us, but things are getting a little more back to normal with each passing day. And with Phase 3 of Delaware Gov. John Carney’s reopening timetable hopefully coming soon, this trend should continue for the near future.
In fact, two of the items in today’s events blog comprise a look ahead at things that are in the works, once the governor finally does give that order. So continue enjoying the coastal region’s magnificent beaches and boardwalks, as well as everything that’s available to us at the current time.
But also rest assured that much more is on the way, not only in the summer but also in coastal Delaware’s much anticipated fall festival season.
Many of the biggest events of the summer, however, have unfortunately been cancelled or postponed for this year. But there are nonetheless many great things to look forward to.
And we’re going to tell you about a few right now. We begin in the coastal region and two of the area’s most popular summertime attractions, which are both slated to return in the coming days…
Freeman Stage Events (Upcoming). The board of directors for the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation have approved plans for the beloved Freeman Stage to move forward with an abbreviated 2020 summer season, which they hope can begin by mid-July.
Organizers will focus primarily on local and regional acts this year, with a few national acts sprinkled in from time to time.
The plan for 2020 is moving forward with guidelines from both Delaware Gov. John Carney and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in mind, with specifics still being worked out at this time.

Funland Opening (Upcoming). The owners and operators of Funland on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk announced this week that the State of Delaware has approved their proposal to open the park’s rides, once Gov. John Carney gives the go ahead to move into Phase 3 of the state’s reopening plan.
With that approval, employees have begun working inside the park so they can officially welcome back visitors once the much anticipated announcement is made.
Rides are being assembled, cleaned and prepared and Funland owners are also working to make changes that will allow for adherence to social distancing and enhanced sanitization requirements.
No official reopening date has been set at this time, but hopes are that Funland can open for an abbreviated summer season in the next couple of weeks.

Drive the Miracle Mile (June 27). This is the 17th year for this important community event, which usually takes place on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk but this year is moving to the Hudson Fields complex near Milton due to current health restrictions that are in place.
What is usually a one mile walk on the Boardwalk, the Miracle Mile this year is instead a one mile drive to honor cancer survivors and their caregivers.
The event is organized by Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center and will include messages of hope, as well as plenty of supporters cheering and celebrating the participants.
The Miracle Mile is open to the public and is free of charge, though there will be several opportunities available to support the needs of cancer patients.
The event is scheduled for 8 to 11 a.m., this Saturday, June 27.
