In February, the Heritage Shores Military Club (HSMC) and Nanticoke Health Services formed a partnership to support the needs of military veterans who are patients of Nanticoke Health Services. The HSMC donated $1,000 to the Nanticoke Health Foundation, establishing the Veterans Care Fund. This fund will support the immediate needs of veterans who are patients at Nanticoke with medications, medical equipment and transportation.

The HSMC and Nanticoke are also teaming up to help veterans and their families become familiar with the benefits they earned while serving our country. “We will make sure they have the proper documentation of their service, such as a DD-214 or help them get those documents if they do not already have them. The partnership will work with this group to assist them in signing up for VA health care and other benefits if they haven’t already done so,” says Phil Clark, HSMC Chairman.

“As a veteran myself, I’m appreciative of this new partnership with HSMC and the services it will provide to our patients,” said Steven A. Rose, President and CEO of Nanticoke Health Services. “Through the partnership, the Nanticoke Case Management team will connect patients with the HSMC organization to provide veteran services and support.” The initial HSMC team consists of five members who are all veterans. As the partnership grows, HSMC will dedicate additional volunteer resources and provide additional funding as needed.

The HSMC, located at the Heritage Shores adult community in Bridgeville, Delaware, is comprised of men and women that served in the Armed Forces and now reside at Heritage Shores. Members are either retired military or have spent some time in the military. The group was formed on October 27, 2010 by MSG John Barr, Retired New Jersey Army National Guard, and MSG Lawrence “Tazz” Tassone, Retired United States Air Force. It was established to foster comradeship among all residents of Heritage Shores who have honorably served this nation by belonging to the military. Additionally, the club will provide for observance of national holidays set aside to honor past and serving members of the US Armed Forces; ensure appropriate observance of service-specific birthdays; provide a forum for passing information relating to Veterans Administration benefits and veteran-oriented legislation being discussed at the state or federal level.

The Heritage Shores Military Club welcomes new members of Heritage Shores and others that are not residents as associate members. The club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Heritage Shores Clubhouse at 10:00 am and no dues are charged to become a member of the HSMC. The Heritage Shores Military Club is an approved 501(c)(3) public charity.
