Historic Lewes in the Spotlight this Weekend with Three Big Annual Events on the Calendar

April 3, 2019

There are certain signs that remind us all of this special time of year. Yes, Spring has sprung in the coastal region, and you can see examples of it everywhere you go.

The Phillies, Orioles and Nationals are once again taking the field not far away, Robin Redbreast and her friends are chirping away daily and the mercury in the thermometer is beginning to show signs of life.

And if you drive or walk through historic Lewes over the next few days, you’ll notice another sure sign of Spring – the vibrant and colorful Lewes Tulip Festival that showcases the natural beauty of the “First Town in the First State” every April.

This beautiful yearly celebration is one of our highlighted events for this first weekend of April here in the coastal region, so be sure to read much more about that and what else is happening over the next few days in our blog below.

Here are our suggestions for a fun and exciting time at the Delaware and Maryland beaches for the extended weekend of April 5-7.

Lewes Tulip Celebration (April 5-14). Thousands of tulips are currently blooming around Lewes, in parks, at museums and at many other public locations.

This 10-day celebration of the tulip is one of the more visually appealing festivals you’ll see in and around coastal Delaware each Spring.

Throughout the festival, there will be several events offered by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and its partners, including trolley tours, floral demonstrations, a celebration of the town’s Dutch heritage, the “Lewes TWO-Lips Culinary Week” festivities and much more.

Visit the Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s website for more information on this early Spring event at the Delaware beaches.

Delaware Resorts Home Expo (April 6-7). Cape Henlopen High School is the location for this 22nd annual event, which typically draws 2,000 or more visitors to coastal Delaware over two days.

Scheduled hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, with real estate agents, developers, builders, mortgage loan officers and service companies all scheduled to attend.

The event is free for the public and all participants can sign up for free gifts and prize giveaways.

Southern Delaware Oysterfest (April 6). To be held at the Beacon Motel on Savannah Road in Lewes from 12 to 3 p.m., on Saturday, April 6, this event will revolve around one of coastal Delaware’s most popular seafood delicacies.

Food will be provided by The Pig and Publican and will include both raw and fried oysters, as well as an assortment of side dishes. There will also be live entertainment during the entirety of this early April special event.

Tickets are $50, with children 12 and under admitted for free, and proceeds from the event will be used to benefit the work being done at both Delaware Wild Lands and the Greater Lewes Foundation.

Tickets for this event can be purchased here.
