Late April Weekend Events Offer A Lot of Choices, in both Coastal Delaware and Coastal Maryland

April 23, 2019

There’s been some wild and wacky weather over the last couple of weeks here in the coastal region, including a pair of rare tornadoes touching down not far from the beaches. But hopefully things will settle down a bit as we close in on Memorial Day Weekend and the beginning of the busy summer season.

We have a number of great local events to tell you about this week, at both the Delaware and the Maryland beaches. If you’ve been waiting for a chance to get out and enjoy some of spring’s best events and festivals, this is a perfect weekend to do so.

In total, we’re highlighting seven fun and family-friendly happenings for this final weekend of April here in the coastal region.

Ocean to Bay Bike Tour (April 26-27). This is one of coastal Delaware’s premier spring events and features hundreds of bicyclists completing one of four courses – either a 36-mile, a 50-mile, a metric century or a century route.

There’s also a “fun ride” on Friday, from 12 to 4 p.m., which encompasses 15 miles in coastal Delaware.

This year marks three decades for the popular riding event, which is organized by the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, The event will only be cancelled in the event of extreme weather, and all routes begin and end in Bethany Beach. As always, completion of the route is not mandatory.

The kickoff of the Ocean to Bay Bike Tour is staggered, beginning at 7 a.m., with the Century Ride and running through the beginning of the 36-mile ride at 8:30.

Delmarva Spring Birding Weekend (April 25-28). If you love wildfowl, then these four days in coastal Delaware and Maryland are made just for you.

This 24th annual event includes boat trips, paddling treks and expeditions on foot during the spring migration through Delmarva of many different species.

Included during the four days of the event are excursions that focus on the many different types of bird species that either make their home on the peninsula, or whose migratory routes take them through the area annually.

Bacon Fest (April 26-28): Throughout this two day event, there will be more than 20 locations in both Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach serving up special bacon inspired dishes.

Beginning Saturday with several locations in Dewey Beach and continuing the next day in Rehoboth, “Bacon Fest” features samples from coastal restaurants, discount offers, event t-shirts and much more.

And you won’t want to miss the Friday evening welcome party at the Rusty Rudder, from 6 to 9 p.m., and the Bacon Bonfire in Dewey Beach on Saturday evening.

The final event of BaconFest will be the “Best Bacon on the Beach” awards ceremony at the Starboard on Sunday afternoon.

If you plan on attending the event, you can choose from either a VIP pass or general admission. For more information on this event, click HERE or call 302-227-7796.
