From Local Delicacies to Sleek Canines, Hot Rods and Fun Outdoor Activities, There’s Something for Everyone this Weekend in the Coastal Region

October 9, 2019

An extremely busy fall festival season rolls on this week, with another quintet of great local happenings at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

The featured event for this second weekend of October can be found a short drive to the west in the tiny town of Bridgeville, where one of the most anticipated festivals of the fall will be held this Friday and Saturday.

And back at the beach, we have several great gatherings to tell you about as well, from Rehoboth Beach, to Lewes, Dewey Beach and even Ocean City.

So keep reading so that you too can be “in the know” for all that’s happening this weekend in Delaware and Maryland’s beautiful coastal region.

We begin, as inferred above, with an annual event in tiny Bridgeville that has gained regional and national attention in recent years…

Apple Scrapple Festival (October 11-12). Named previously as one of the top small town festivals in the United States, the 2019 Apple Scrapple Festival is scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, October 11 and 12, in Bridgeville.

Named for the T.S. Smith Apple Orchards and the Ralph and Paul Adams (RAPA) Scrapple plant, this unique southern Delaware event features a whole lot of fun all centered around apples and the First State delicacy that is scrapple.

Events for 2019 include a car show, live entertainment, a home decorating contest, apple orchard tours, wagon rides, a “Scapple Sling,” a kids’ apple toss, a trade show and much more.

The festival opens to the public on Friday at 4 p.m. and on Saturday at 9 a.m. Visit www.applescrapple.com for more information on the 2019 Apple Scrapple Festival in Bridgeville.

Greyhounds Reach the Beach (October 9-13). Now that the Labradoodles have had their time at the Delaware beaches, it’s time for the greyhounds to have their turn. And that comes this week, with five fun-filled days centered in Rehoboth and Dewey Beaches.

The 2019 Greyhounds Reach the Beach event kicks off this year with a social and vendor preview at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center on Wednesday evening, October 9, and continues until the parade on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk on the morning of Sunday, October 13.

Other events for 2019 include special speakers, gatherings, an ice cream social, several vendors, a “Blessing of the Hounds” and much more.

Rehoboth Beach Buddy Fest (October 11-12). Centered around the annual Buddy Walk on Saturday, October 12, this two-day festival has become a favorite local event every October in Rehoboth Beach.

There will be plenty of free food and entertainment, as well as a silent auction, live music at the Bandstand and much more.

The event kicks off Friday evening, with a 5 to 8 p.m. gathering at the Dewey Beach Lions Club Community Center, but the main event is the Buddy Walk in downtown Rehoboth Beach on Saturday, October 12, beginning at 9 a.m.

The yearly event brings awareness to people with Down Syndrome in a positive way, and serves as a fundraiser for the National Down Syndrome Society.
