Rewind back to 1940s Oak Orchard

Visitors stroll along the Oak Orchard boardwalk in Millsboro in this colorized photograph, likely taken in the 1940s. Built by the state around 1920, the boardwalk connected the Indian River Hotel and Riverdale. At the time, Oak Orchard featured dance halls, shops and a merry-go-round near the water. Parts of the waterfront were later destroyed in the Storm of 1962.
