Seven Family Friendly Online Programs to Take Advantage of This April, from the Comfort of Your Home

April 8, 2020

For those of you who look forward to our weekly current events blog, you probably noticed that we didn’t publish last week for the first time in several years. That’s because we’ve had some technical difficulties over the last few days, which only seems appropriate given the current situation at the Delaware and Maryland beaches and around the world.

But just as we’ll all be soon, the “Weekender Blog” is back to normal this week with seven more ways for you to stay busy while at home over the next few days and weeks.

We’re all trying to keep as much of a normal schedule as we can while being “sheltered in place,” and we hope any and all technical issues are now behind us as we move forward into April and the rest of spring along the coast.

We’ll keep giving you more creative ways of passing the time during these next few weeks, with the hope that things are back to normal in time for Memorial Day and the busy summer season.

Today, we’re focusing exclusively on things you can do online. Can you imagine how much tougher this time would be if we didn’t live in the age of the Internet?

Okay, here’s what we have for you this week:

Watch A Musical Or Play. With Broadway shuttered and live entertainment practically non-existent in much of the country, the theater community has come together to provide free entertainment for all of us.

There are several excellent choices available to stream online for free, including musical, plays and operas. The list rotates frequently, so visit www.filmedonstage.com regularly to see what’s available.

Current choices as of April 1 include Cirque du Soleil’s “O,” “The Sound of Music Live,” “V for Victory,” “Red,” “Much Ado About Nothing” and several others.

Color Famous Paintings. More than 100 museums and libraries around the world have produced coloring books based on their collections, and made them available as part of a special Color Our Collections program online.

Devised by the New York Academy of Medicine, there are now nearly 400 coloring books that can be printed out and used at home over the next few weeks.

The museums have taken precautions to keep the images kid friendly, so print out your favorite and have fun!

Go To Space! Not literally of course, but NASA has made their entire collection of images, sounds and video available online for free during the current health crisis in the United States.

There are more than 140,000 items in total for you to view, or even download if you like.

Just visit www.nasa.gov and see what catches your eye. Or you can type what you’re looking for in the search window and view stunning images and video from outer space, or whatever else you’re interested in.

Have fun!
