Several Big Events on the Calendar This Weekend in the Coastal Region
For this final weekend in July, we have a number of great events coming up here in the coastal region that we're excited to tell you about.
It's definitely been a fantastic Summer of 2018 thus far at the Delaware and Maryland beaches, and we hope you've been able to make the most of this wonderful time of the year.
And if you're going to be around in September and October, remember that this is the time of the year when the biggest annual festivals dominate the calendar. These include:
- Nanticoke Indian Powwow (September 8-9)
- Apple Scrapple Festival (October 12-13)
- Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival (October 11-14)
- Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddler's Festival (October 26-28)
- Return Day (November 8)
If you're going to be in the area during the fall season, be sure to save the date for some of these absolutely fabulous, family-friendly local festivals. You won't be disappointed!
Okay, on to the weekend of July 27-29 here in the coastal region.
Here are our top choices for fun and exciting things to do this weekend in the coastal region:
Senior League Softball World Series (July 30 - August 5). Held at the Lower Sussex Little League complex in Roxana, this Little League International event features teams from all throughout the United States, as well as Latin America, Canada, Asia and Europe.
It’s the final destination for teenage girls who play throughout the summer for a chance to participate in the World Series. And several games of the event will once again be televised on the ESPN television network.
This is the 43rd year for this particular event, and the 18th year it's been held in Delaware. The host team for 2018 is a combined squad from the Cape Henlopen and Georgetown Little Leagues.
Delaware District III is also the defending champions of this international event, so come on out and cheer on the home team.

Delaware State Fair (Through July 28). Last week, the State Fair was actually closed down for a day due to inclement weather, but it's back on and going strong for the last few days of its 2018 run in Delaware.
The always popular agricultural exhibits have once again been a big part of the 10 day event, along with carnival rides, shows, lots of "fair food" and interesting activities for young and old alike.
Admission to the state fair is $9 for adults and $4 for children between 6 and 12. Children 5 and under are admitted free.

Carey's Camp (July 25 - August 5). This is the 130th year for this popular church camp near Millsboro, and if you want to experience a true taste of Sussex County, there’s no better place to do so.
A throwback to Methodist revival meetings of yesteryear, dozens of families re-open “tents,” which are actually one-and-a-half story cottages, every year at Carey’s Camp and live together for two weeks, socializing, eating, playing games and holding church services.
In the evenings, the central sanctuary becomes the focus and the public is welcome to join in on the activities, whether it be sermons or musical performances.
The first Carey’s Camp was held in 1888 and it is one of only a few such camps remaining in the country. For more information, and a complete schedule of events, visit www.careyscamp.org.
