Several Holiday Light Displays Featured This Christmas Season at the Delaware and Maryland Beaches

November 21, 2019

In lieu of any big weekend events over the next few days, today we’re instead going to be highlighting some of the holiday themed happenings that will be occurring throughout the coastal region between now and the end of 2019.

We’ll be focusing primarily on holiday light displays in many of our area towns, but we also have some tree lighting events and scheduled parades to tell you about as well.

If you’re searching for holiday themed events between now and Christmas, we’ll be highlighting those in future editions of our “Weekender” blog at a time closer to when they’re actually scheduled.

So if you’re not yet in the holiday spirit, or if you’re just waiting until after Thanksgiving to begin thinking about Christmas, we’ve got you covered.

Use today’s blog to help plan your holiday cheer campaign for 2019, in areas all throughout Delaware and Maryland’s coastal region.

Let’s get started with some of those fantastic light displays that we teased you about above. There are several you may like to take a look it, in both Delaware and Maryland.

Winter Wonderfest (Milton). Let’s get started right here in our own back yard and the fabulous holiday event that is the annual Winter Wonderfest, now being held for the first time at the Hudson Fields complex near Milton.

Winter Wonderfest includes a whole lot of family fun, including an ice skating rink, carnival rides and much more. But for today’s blog, we’re going to focus on the spectacular lights display that’s a part of the event.

Held at Cape Henlopen State Park in previous years, the light show in 2019 will be held at Hudson Fields. It’s still a one-and-a-half mile ride, with lots of great displays for one and all to enjoy.

There are two ways to view the light show spectacular this year, either in your car or by hopping aboard a hayride and enjoying the lights via a relaxing journey through the course.

Advertised by organizers as something that “kids from 1 to 92” will enjoy, this year’s light show at Winter Wonderfest promises to be the best yet, so be sure to check it out this holiday season.

Prices for the holiday lights display are $20 per car at the gate or $15 via advance online purchase. Vans are $40 at the gate or $35 online and buses are $60/$55. The cost for the hayride is $8 per person.

Winterfest of Lights (Ocean City). Head a few miles south to Ocean City this holiday season for one of the biggest and best holiday light displays on the east coast of the United States.

More than a million holiday lights and hundreds of animated displays are once again planned for this year’s Winterfest of Lights in Maryland’s most popular coastal resort, which is always held at Northside Park.

Board the Winterfest Express for the one-mile journey through the park, which includes 58 acres of lights, a 50-foot tall Christmas tree and lots of holiday themed exhibits.

After returning back to Winterfest Village, grab a cup of hot chocolate, have your photo taken with Jolly Ole’ Saint Nick and maybe even do a little Christmas shopping before heading home.

Tickets for the Winterfest Express are $5 for guests 12 years and older and free for children younger than 12.

Hours for this year’s event are Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. For more information on this year’s Winterfest of Lights in Ocean City, call 800-626-2326 or 410-250-0125.

Apple Illumination Christmas Light Show (Rehoboth Beach). In the “Nation’s Summer Capital” of Rehoboth Beach, you won’t find a better lights display than the one put on yearly by the folks at Apple Electric.

Located at 18854 John J. Williams Highway, the display will be running every night until early January, from dusk until around 11 p.m. More than 50,000 Christmas lights make up the annual display.

Visitors to the light show are asked to bring an unwrapped toy that will be donated to local children in need via the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
