Special Summertime Events Scattered Throughout the Region This Weekend

August 1, 2018

Greetings and welcome once again to the "Weekender Blog," brought to you every week by the real estate professionals at the Oldfather Group of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby's International Realty.

The first weekend in August is filled with plenty of fun and exciting things to do here at the Delaware and Maryland beaches, so keep reading for everything you'll need to plan the next few days.

We're featuring six events this week instead of our usual five, four in Delaware and two across the state line in Ocean City.

We featured it in last week's blog, but if you’re a sports fan, the Senior League Softball World Series event is winding up over the next few days at the Lower Sussex Little League complex in Roxana. It’s definitely a great way to spend an afternoon with your friends and/or family.

And if you can’t make it to the ballpark, you can also catch the games on the ESPN television network. Check your cable or satellite listings for more information.

There's certainly plenty going on this weekend in the coastal region. So, without further ado, here are our choices for weekend events and happenings for the weekend of August 3-5 at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches:

Recycled Cardboard Boat Regatta (August 4). This wild and wacky, family friendly event centered on and around the Nanticoke River in Seaford is held in coordination with the Town of Blades, the Reclaim Our River Program, Abbott's Mill Nature Center and the Nanticoke River Sail & Power Squadron.

The event features a great way for different organizations to get out and have some fun on the water and also includes music, food and beverages, and opportunities to learn from the Reclaim Our River (ROR) partnership about how to protect Delaware's waterways.

Teams build boats made out of recycled cardboard, with the goal of making them float down the river. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t, and that’s really when the fun starts.

This is the fifth year for the event, which will be held this Saturday, August 4, at the Nanticoke River Marina in Seaford. To register for the event, and for rules and other information, please click here.

Outdoor Fine Art Show (August 4-5). This 45th annual event features 125 artists and will take place at the Rehoboth Art League complex in Henlopen Acres. The show is scheduled for Saturday, August 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, August 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to the arts and crafts, additional activities include food, music, historic tours, face painting and a Dogfish Head beer garden.

Visit the Rehoboth Art League for more information.

Lewes Historical Society Outdoor Antiques Show (August 4). This annual gathering will be held at the Lewes Historical Society complex on Shipcarpenter Street downtown. It's the 55th year for the event, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., this Saturday, August 4.

Dozens of high quality antiques dealers are expected this year, with 18th to 20th century items on full display. In addition to the dozens of vendors, there will also be a number of food selections and festive music playing throughout the day.

Admission is $5 and children under 12 are admitted free. Proceeds benefit the Society and are used in educational and preservation programming.
