Summer Safety Tips from Core Concierge Health
July 3, 2026

Summer in coastal Delaware is one of the best times of the year.

Whether you're spending the day at the beach, enjoying a round of golf, taking a walk, or relaxing by the pool with family, it's important to take a few simple precautions to stay healthy and safe.

As temperatures rise, I encourage everyone to keep these summer safety tips in mind.

Stay Hydrated

One of the most important things you can do during hot weather is drink plenty of water. Don't wait until you feel thirsty—by then, your body may already be becoming dehydrated.

This is especially important if you're:

  • Spending time outdoors
  • Exercising
  • Playing golf
  • Visiting the beach or pool

Keeping a water bottle nearby and drinking consistently throughout the day can help prevent dehydration and heat-related illness.

Protect Your Skin

Sun exposure increases significantly during the summer months, making sunscreen an essential part of your daily routine.

I recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapplying it every two hours—or more often if you're swimming or sweating.

Protecting your skin today can help reduce your risk of sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer in the future.

Avoid the Hottest Part of the Day

When possible, try to limit prolonged outdoor activities between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., when the sun's rays and temperatures are typically at their strongest.

If you do need to be outside during these hours, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and continue drinking plenty of fluids.

Know the Signs of Heat Illness

Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, particularly during periods of high heat and humidity.

Watch for symptoms such as:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Excessive sweating
  • Confusion

If you or someone around you experiences these symptoms, move to a cool place immediately, begin hydrating, and seek medical attention if symptoms continue or worsen. Early treatment is important.

Practice Water Safety

Summer fun often includes time around pools, lakes, and the ocean. Water safety should always remain a priority.

Remember to:

  • Never leave children unattended near water.
  • Use properly fitted flotation devices whenever appropriate.
  • Stay alert and supervise swimmers at all times.

A few simple precautions can help prevent serious accidents.

A little preparation goes a long way. Staying hydrated, protecting your skin, recognizing the signs of heat illness, and practicing water safety can help you and your family enjoy everything summer has to offer.
