Summer Vibes Fest, AFRAM Festival Highlight This Weekend's Events Calendar

August 8, 2018

The Summer of 2018 is entering its final weeks, which means that it won't be long before the kids are back in school and the dog days of summer begin transitioning into the cooler temperatures of autumn.

But until the fine folks in Bethany Beach officially lay the summer to rest with their annual jazz funeral, coming up in a few weeks, there's still plenty of fun outdoor things to do here at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

And we're here to tell you all about them in our weekly “Weekender Blog,” as always brought to you by the real estate professionals at the Oldfather Group of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty in Rehoboth Beach.

Okay, let's jump right into what's happening this weekend here in the coastal region. We have seaside fun in Dewey Beach, some special events in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, and one of the most culturally diverse festivals of the season in nearby Seaford.

And those are just the annual events. As always between Memorial Day and Labor Day, there’s never a shortage of fun things to do at the beach.

Whatever you choose to do, we hope you fully enjoy the final weeks of the Summer of 2018. Now, here are our choices for this coming weekend at and near the Delaware and Maryland coast.

Summer Vibes Fest (August 10-18). This multi-day festival celebrates the summer spirit in coastal Delaware and includes several events and happenings over its nine days.

The festival includes events such as the Art of Skim at Big Chill Beach Club on August 11, the East of Maui SUP Sprint Challenge at North Beach on August 15 and the Rehoboth Am Skate Jam at Epworth Skate Park on August 18.

The main event of the festival is the Zap Pro/Am World Championships of Skimboarding on Saturday and Sunday in Dewey Beach, which we'll be highlighting below.

Zap Pro/Am World Championships of Skimboarding (August 10-12). This is the main event of the first Summer Vibes weekend and is a contest that's been running now for more than 35 years.

This multi-day event attracts more than 100 of the top skimboarders from around the world to compete in Dewey Beach's famous shore break.

Eastern Shore AFRAM Festival (August 11). Held a short drive inland in Seaford, this annual event celebrates 23 years in 2018 and is the area's largest celebration of African-American culture.

Enjoy cultural foods, informational exhibits and vendors offering items such as jewelry, beauty products, African textiles, arts and crafts and plenty more. There's also a huge selection of entertainment in store this year, as always.
