Sunfest, Ladybug Music Festival Highlight Mid-September Events Calendar

September 19, 2018

Southern Delaware's jam-packed Fall Festival Season continues this weekend, with another quintet of great local events on the calendar.

This weekend is actually headlined by events in both coastal Delaware and coastal Maryland, with Ocean City's four-day Sunfest celebration and the Ladybug Music Festival in Milford taking center stage.

Regarding the latter, be sure to check back on oldfatherrealestate.com in a couple of days for a feature story on this unique music event that highlights female talent from throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

Other events planned for this weekend are spread throughout the area, so read below for all the info you'll need for planning a great few days here at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

Here are our recommended events for the weekend of September 21-23 in the coastal region:

Ocean City Sunfest (Sept. 20-23). Ocean City throws one of the biggest parties of the year over the next few days, as the four-day Sunfest event returns with plenty of musical entertainment, kid’s activities, great food and much more.

This year’s headliners are Daughtry and country music band The Cadillac Three. As always, the festival is free to attend, though tickets are required for headline acts.

Hours for this year’s event are Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Events are held at the Ocean City Inlet parking area, adjacent to the city's world-famous boardwalk.

Ladybug Music Festival (Sept. 22). Pretty much the entire city of Milford is helping throw what they're dubbing "the largest celebration of women in music," this Saturday, Sept. 22, with 40 acts performing at 17 different venues.

The event is planned and produced via a collaboration between Downtown Milford Inc., and Wilmington based Gable Music Ventures, and is scheduled to run from 3 until 9 p.m.

This marks the first year that the event has strayed outside of the city of Wilmington, with Milford being chosen as the host site. Milford is widely considered to be the place where the ladybug officially became Delaware's state bug many years ago.

The main stage for the event will be at the intersection of Walnut Street and Park Avenue downtown, with several other locations throughout Milford also taking part in the annual event.

Tour De Sussex (Sept. 22). The 2018 Tour de Sussex biking event will take place this Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning and ending at Delaware Technical & Community College in Georgetown.

The event features both 50 and 62 mile cycling courses that begin at 8 a.m., as well as a 25 mile course that kicks off an hour later, at 9 a.m.

The registration fee for the 2018 event is $60 and rest stops are at Dogfish Head Brewery, as well as a couple of other select locations. An afterparty is planned, featuring Dogfish Head Beer and live entertainment by Monkey Fist.

All proceeds from the event will benefit workforce development scholarships.
