Twelfth Annual Ocean City Air Show Headlines Our Mid-June Events Calendar in the Coastal Region

If you’re looking for something fun to do with the family this weekend, then the Delaware and Maryland beaches are where you want to be. We’ve got several great events to tell you about this week, in each state’s heavily visited coastal regions.

Headlining this weekend’s events calendar is the fabulous Ocean City Air Show, which is being held for the 12th straight year and is always one of the most popular events of the summer. So be sure to check it out if you’re in the Ocean City area, and of course read below for more information on this huge summertime event.

But while the air show might be the biggest event of the weekend, we’ve got several more great things to tell you about. So please read below for much more about what’s going on this Friday to Sunday in Delaware and Maryland’s coastal region.

Here are the Oldfather Group’s top choices for fun and family friendly events for the expanded weekend of June 14-16 at and near our area beach communities:

Ocean City Air Show (June 15-16). The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will once again be headlining this year’s popular air show in Ocean City. This is the 12th year for the event and it’s scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16, in Maryland’s most popular summertime resort.

Other demonstrations for the air show include the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the C-17 Globemaster III, the C-5M Super Galaxy, the A-10 Warthogs and performers like the SOCOM Para-Commandos Jump Team, the USAF F-16 Viper Demo Team and the USCG Search and Rescue Team.

Tickets can be purchased for several different viewing areas, including the Flight Line Club, Drop Zone Beach (known as the aerial 50 yard line) and the VIP Skybox.

Selbyville Old Timer’s Day (June 15). This popular coastal festival in Selbyville has been going on for more than six decades and is still as popular as it’s ever been.

Jointly sponsored by the Town of Selbyville and the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce, this traditional celebration features cars, tractors and emergency vehicles that are more than 30 years old, as well as live music by the Glass Onion Band, lots of vendors, plenty of rides and activities for the kids and door prizes.

Also for 2019 is a first-time beer garden with food provided by Taco Reho, a Miss Old Timer’s Day pin-up contest with all contestants dressed in clothes from the 1940s and 1950s, lawn games like cornhole and a multitude of children’s activities scattered throughout the festival grounds.

The festival runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., this Saturday, June 15, in downtown Selbyville. Learn more about the 2019 Selbyville Old Timer’s Day Festival and Car Show at the event page here.

Lewes Garden Tour (June 15). This popular 29th annual event is a self-guided tour of private gardens in the “First Town in the First State” and is scheduled for 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., this Saturday, June 15.

There are nine private gardens on the tour this year, which have all been selected by the event committee. Additional activities include a garden market with more than 30 vendors selling related items, artists painting in various gardens, lunch provided by Full Belly Bistro and a refreshment tent in Zwaanendael Park.

A free shuttle is also provided during the tour for all ticket holders. Tickets for this year’s garden tour are $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the tour and can be purchased at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce office, located on King’s Highway near the Zwaanendael Museum.
