Most Builders Have Very Similar Plans, So They Don’t Want to Talk about Design
At Aurora Homes, you’ll hear us talk about the design of the home before we talk about anything else. That’s because we think the design of your space is the most important thing about your new home. When a builder talks about incentives and the amount of hardwood that is included, what does that tell you about the builder’s priority?
Most Builders Don’t Innovate
Builders aren’t really known for innovation. For example, in 2020, the Delaware Association of Homebuilders and Remodelers awarded the “Custom Home of the Year” to our design that was TEN YEARS OLD. Imagine an industry that gives awards to ten year old… anything? So this made us think- and we came to the realization that there was very little innovation. All of the plans that were best sellers were designs that were popular in the 1990s. For new homes in the Lewes, Delaware area, this means a split ranch, 3BR, 2BA with a kitchen in the middle, the owner’s suite behind the garage, and the two bedrooms by the front door. At Aurora Homes, we don’t think people lives are the same as they were 25 years ago. So we went back and decided to design all new homes for the next chapter of your life. The way people live is changing, and it makes sense that people have a new home that will accommodate the future rather than the past.
So, in late 2021, we changed our entire lineup of floorplans to 100% original and innovative designs that are completely designed in-house. We brought our drafting in-house so that we could be more responsive to our customers. This was not without risk- a small, family owned company just decided to dump our best selling home designs. We’re convinced that no builder has given more thought to the design of a new home than Aurora Homes. We’re convinced that your new Aurora Home will be a better setting for the story of our life than any other home you could build in Delaware.
If someone is looking to build a new Delaware home, there are dozens of builders from which they can choose. At Aurora Homes, we encourage people to listen to the builder. The things that the builder will tell you can help you learn about the builder’s priorities. We recommend you choose a builder that aligns with your priorities. For example, if a builder talks about price and delivery dates very early in your communication, then you’ve learned what is important to the builder.
