Women’s Issues, Youth Cheerleading and “Whatnot” Featured this Weekend in the Coastal Region

March 20, 2019

We officially leave Winter behind this week and head into the 2019 Spring season here at the Delaware and Maryland beaches. And while Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate in late March and early April, the calendar tells us that warmer weather and increased outdoor activities are inching closer with each passing day.

We don’t have any outdoor events to tell you about this week, however, as all five of our featured coastal happenings will be held indoors and away from the elements.

That being said, we have some great local events to tell you about for this this first weekend of Spring, at locations ranging from Lewes all the way south to Maryland’s favorite coastal resort of Ocean City.

Okay, on to this weekend’s events. Here are the Oldfather Group’s top happenings for the extended weekend of March 22-24 in the coastal region:

Delaware Women’s Expo (March 23). Held once again at Nassau Valley Vineyards near Lewes, this ninth annual event will feature a wide range of women’s issues, ranging from health and fashion, to lifestyle, livelihoods and much more.

Scheduled to run from 12 to 4 p.m., on Saturday, March 23, several topics will be discussed during the course of the day on the main stage. There will also be nearly 50 vendors on hand, as well as food, giveaways, seminars, prize drawings and much more.

And don’t forget to get your free health checkup while there. Screenings will be given for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body mass index and bone density.

Weekend of Compelling Ales & Whatnot (March 23). This off-centered event will once again be held at the Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton and is scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m., on Saturday, March 23.

The event features off-centered ales and other items synonymous with Dogfish Head, like brewery and distillery tours and beer-centric inspired food pairings.

Tickets are available in many categories, including “general admission,” “designated driver,” VIP” and “Super VIP,” and range in price from $35 to the top-of-the-line $1,499 package that includes a two-night stay at the Dogfish Inn in Lewes, as well as VIP tickets, tasting sessions, shuttle service to and from the brewery and an exclusive breakfast with Dogfish Header founder and CEO Sam Calagione.

Lewes Fire Department Auxiliary Indoor Sale (March 23). Scheduled for this Saturday, March 23, at Station 2 in Nassau, this fundraising event for the Lewes Fire Department will feature more than 35 vendors selling a variety of items.

Planned for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., items for sale will include handcrafted items, new merchandise and yard sale items, as well as hot dogs, baked goods and other various refreshments.

Sparky, the fire department’s mascot, will also be on hand with coloring books and helmets for the little ones in attendance.
