The CKD and CBD designations are the most well-known and prestigious in our industry. Designers seeking this designation—sponsored and awarded by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA)—must go through a rigorous training and testing procedure. An applicant must first have seven years of industry experience, including three years of employment as a full-time residential kitchen and/or bathroom designer. They must attend 60 credit hours of NKBA professional development courses and/or NKBA approved college coursework. They also must provide two client references and two professional affidavits, as well as complete an all-day CKD and/or CBD exam. This exam covers every aspect of residential kitchen and/or bathroom planning and design. Bath, Kitchen and Tile Center designers hold five of these designations.
Certified Interior Designers are trained in all aspects of residential and commercial design. They have attended and graduated with associate or bachelor’s degrees from accredited area colleges, such as the Philadelphia Institute of Design. Whether planning and designing your kitchen or helping you pick out the perfect paint for your project, interior designers are experts in their field. Bath, Kitchen and Tile Center currently employs two Certified Interior Designers.

Tile Design & Installation Choices
When considering tile for a room in your house, there are many styles to choose from:
Glazed Ceramic Tiles
Glazed ceramic tiles are coated with glass-forming minerals and ceramic stains and usually have a high-gloss, semi-gloss, or matte finish. They resist stains and moisture much better than unglazed tiles do.
Unglazed tiles are very hard and dense and can be made with a variety of surface textures and treatments. Since they do not resist stains well, they are usually used for outdoor applications; unglazed tiles are perfect for outdoor kitchens!
Porcelain tiles are much harder and denser than other tile products and are more resistant to scratches and high temperatures. Also, since porcelain’s color goes all the way through the tile, scratches and chips are less noticeable.
Granite tiles are available in a mesmerizing array of colors, patterns, and grains. Granite is one of the hardest materials available, meaning it is highly resistant to scratches and damage. This makes granite tile ideal for flooring and countertops.
Tumbled Stone Tiles
Tumbled stone tiles have worn edges, chips, missing corners, and soft surfaces, resulting in a rustic appearance. These types of tiles work well in rustic and country kitchens, as well as outdoor spaces.
Custom Tile Installation
When thinking about new tile installation, there are a number of things to keep in mind. Most importantly, consider the size of your room. For example, while many people think small rooms call for small tiles, this is not always the case. Often, using larger tiles can make a small room look more spacious, and fewer grout lines will create a cleaner surface appearance. Our experienced tile installers will make sure you get the right look for your space!
At Bath, Kitchen and Tile Center, we work directly with you to create the tile pattern that will bring out the absolute best in whatever room you want to remodel. We can help you design any kind of tile pattern you want, whether you are creating tiled floors, walls, or backsplashes under cabinets. For nearly 50 years, we have helped customers throughout Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Eastern Maryland create stunning tile accents.
If you want to install custom tiles in your home, call us or stop by one of our showrooms today to schedule a one-on-one interview with one of our designers!
