History Book Festival

The History Book Festival is the first book festival in the nation devoted to the topic of history. Join us for a unique book festival experience highlighting renowned, bestselling authors of non-fiction, fiction, and children's literature.

The festival is a first-of-its kind way to hear more than 20 best-selling authors of current non-fiction and fiction about history. We select writers and subjects to appeal to history buffs and readers ranging from the most serious to the more casual. Their presentations are introduced by emcees who will share insights and facilitate audience questions.

What’s the background of the History Book Festival?

This is first-ever book festival devoted exclusively to history — a perfect match with Lewes’s rich historical heritage. The Festival is a nonprofit event formed through the Greater Lewes Foundation in 2015.

Location: Lewes The First Town in the First State

Set in a town with unexpectedly rich history and architecture, graced with beautiful bay and ocean beaches, two lighthouses and a famous ferry, the festival at the Delaware Beaches draws people from up and down the East Coast.

The Festival schedule ensures there’s time for attendees to enjoy Lewes’ historical, dining and shopping district and other attractions.

Book Sales and Signings

All books are available for purchase at the Festival, at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth, and at Biblion in Lewes. The ticketed keynote and closing addresses also include a signed book with the price of admission.

Want to read a Festival author’s book in advance? The History Book Festival buys all Festival books for the Delaware Public Library System.

What About the Kids?

The History Book Festival brings authors into local schools throughout Sussex County in the days before and after the event.

Where Do I Go?

Events take place in the Historic District of Lewes, Delaware, at venues that are within walking distance of each other during the 30 minute breaks between presentations.

Free shuttles also make the circuit between events throughout Saturday.
