‘Loving Vincent’ to open Dec. 8 at Cinema Art Theater
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society's Cinema Art Theater will present "Loving Vincent," a spectacular drama exploring the mystery surrounding Vincent van Gogh's final days.
Made over the course of seven years, and consisting of 65,000 hand-painted frames, "Loving Vincent" is the world's first hand-painted film. Directing duo Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman gathered 125 professional oil painters to paint, in the unmistakable style of van Gogh, over scenes shot by live actors.
They tell the story of a young man who travels to the French village of Arles to investigate the death of the artist. "Loving Vincent" is an original take on the detective story, an ode to one of the world's most famous and original artists – who died in pain and obscurity – and an amazing technical achievement, all in one.
Screening times are 4 and 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8 and 9; 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10; 1 and 4 p.m., Monday and Wednesday, Dec. 11 and 13; and 4 and 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 14. Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Art Theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening. Admission for a screening is $8 for film society members and $10 for nonmembers. All screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza behind the Lewes Wawa.
