‘The King’ opening at Cinema Art Theater Sept. 7

September 6, 2018

Starting Friday, Sept. 7, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “The King,” an utterly original documentary that examines the state of the country after the 2016 election through the lens of one of its greatest performers, Elvis Presley.

Forty years after the death of Elvis Presley, two-time Sundance Grand Jury winner Eugene Jarecki's new film takes the King's 1963 Rolls-Royce on a musical road trip across America. From Memphis to New York, Las Vegas, and beyond, the journey traces the rise and fall of Elvis as a metaphor for the country he left behind. In this groundbreaking film, Jarecki paints a visionary portrait of the state of the American Dream and a penetrating look at how we got here. A diverse cast of Americans join the journey, including Alec Baldwin, Roseanne Cash, Chuck D, Emmylou Harris, Ethan Hawke, Van Jones, Mike Myers and Dan Rather, among many others.

Screening times are 4 p.m., Friday, Sept 7; 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept 8; 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept 9; 1 p.m., Monday, Sept 10; 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11; 4 p.m., Wednesday. Sept 12; and 4 p.m., Thursday Sept 13. Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
