‘Blackbird’ showing at Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater Sept. 18-24

September 16, 2020

Starting Friday, Sept. 18, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Blackbird,” a beautifully filmed drama about a family’s weekend gathering that centers around the mother’s terminal illness.

Lily (played by Susan Sarandon) and Paul (played by Sam Neill) summon their loved ones to their beach house for one final gathering after Lily decides to end her long battle with ALS on her own terms. The couple is planning a loving weekend complete with holiday traditions, but the mood becomes strained when unresolved issues surface between Lily and her daughters Jennifer (Kate Winslet) and Anna (Mia Wasikowska). Joining the collective farewell are Lily's son-in-law (played by Rainn Wilson), her lifelong friend, daughter's partner and grandson. Her story is ultimately one of hope, humor, love and a celebration of life.

Screening times are 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18; 4 and 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 19; 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 20; 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23; and 3 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24. Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online at www.rehobothfilm.com.
