‘Iceberg, Ho!’ opens dinner theater series at Irish Eyes Lewes

The events staff at Irish Eyes Pub and Restaurant in Lewes is launching a new theater experience, brought to life by local actors in collaboration with Ovation dinner theater.  

Fittingly enough, the series opens at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, with a blustery tale, titled ‘Iceberg, Ho!’ 

The restaurant and dinner theater have previously worked together to cater private events, but this marks the first dinner theater sponsored by Irish Eyes and open to the public, events coordinator Sami Ferringer said. 

Irish Eyes has four shows scheduled through March, Ferringer said, with the second show, “Joey and Gina’s Italian Comedy Wedding” scheduled Saturday, Feb. 10.

“It’s pretty much set up with a wedding, and basically, everyone comes in and sort of crashes the wedding with audience participation and dancing,” she said. “I haven’t seen it, but I have heard it is one of their best sellers.”

Each performance averages about  2 1/2 hours, including a three-course meal. The menu for “Iceberg, Ho!” begins with a cocktail hour, cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 p.m., Ferringer said, followed by plated salads, a choice of roasted swai or chicken piccata with basmati rice, and green beans with almonds, along with homemade cookies and brownies for dessert.

Ovation dinner theater owner Nancy Mikkelson said in an email the productions at Irish Eyes have been in the works since last summer, when she attended an event in the Lewes room and knew it would be a perfect setting for her lively theater troupe.

Mikkelson has eight shows now in production with her high-energy theater company. On Saturday, Feb. 24, Ovation theater will return to Irish Eyes with “Mafia Murders” and in March, the theater has scheduled a lighthearted murder mystery, titled “80’s Rewind, a ‘Totally Rad’ Murder Mystery.”

“The best part is that our audience is part of the show,” she wrote. “Guests are always excited as they find themselves in the midst of interaction with our professional actors – a unique experience!”
