‘Lady Bird’ to open Dec. 29 at Cinema Art Theater

December 27, 2017

Starting Friday, Dec. 29, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society's Cinema Art Theater will present "Lady Bird," the exciting debut feature by actress Greta Gerwig, about a young woman's attempts to forge her own identity as she escapes the stifling confines of her hometown. The film is being brought back to the area due to popular demand.

Excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter, Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice. Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, Calif., in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape people, the beliefs that define people, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Screening times are 4 and 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29; 4 and 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 30; 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 31; 1 and 4 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2; 1 and 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3; and 4 and 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 4.
