‘Recycling 101’ program for adults set at Rehoboth Beach Public Library June 11

June 9, 2019

As impending climate threats continue to become more of a global issue, one of the easiest ways to locally act remains recycling and limiting the household’s daily waste. But how to know if one is recycling the right way? Throw away greasy pizza boxes even if they’re made out of cardboard? (Spoiler alert: yes!) Are all plastic bags from the grocery store always okay to place loose recyclables in? (Another spoiler: they aren’t!)

Lucky for the community, the Rehoboth Beach Public Library will be hosting Stacey Helmer, the senior public education and outreach coordinator for the Delaware Solid Waste Authority, Tuesday, June 11, at 11:30 a.m. Helmer will be on hand to answer any and all questions residents may have in regard to recycling, with a crash course on the major do’s and don’ts.

Those who attend the event will learn the clear, distinct DSWA guidelines between what to recycle and what to chuck in the waste basket, and how material is processed and marketed by the DSWA at its recycling centers. A representative from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s waste division will also be on hand to answer any technical questions regarding recycling laws and ways that a city’s recycling as a whole can be improved.

All local residents with a passion for recycling and eliminating waste are urged to attend with their questions! Like many of the programs available at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library, this event will be free and open to the public. Those with questions are invited to reach out to programming librarian Tyler Antoine at tyler.antoine@lib.de.us.
