‘Suppressed 2020: Fight to Vote’ film screening set Sept. 11

September 3, 2020

The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will offer a free screening of “Suppressed 2020: The Fight to Vote” at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, online via Zoom. A discussion will follow the film.

The documentary explores voter suppression in Georgia during the 2018 midterm elections, including polling-place closures, long wait times to vote, voter list purges and lost absentee ballots. Produced by Robert Greenwald with Brave New Films, this film has been updated to include newer developments on voter suppression.

Mac Goekler, co-chair of UUSD’s Social & Environmental Justice and a former lead voting judge in Ohio, said, “We must always be vigilant to protect our right to vote. Even when it may be easy for some people to vote, it might be very difficult for others. I believe our system of voting with the chain of custody of ballots, used and unused, and other voting material is extremely secure.”
