‘Woman Who Loves Giraffes’ opens Feb. 7 at Cinema Art Theater

February 6, 2020

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “The Woman Who Loves Giraffes,” opening Friday, Feb. 7. This critically acclaimed documentary follows the life and works of a pioneering scientist, Dr. Anne Innis Dagg, who in 1956 made an unprecedented solo journey to South Africa to study giraffes in the wild.

Anne, now 85, retraces her steps, and with letters and stunning, original 16mm film footage, offers an intimate window into her life as a young woman, juxtaposed with a firsthand look at the devastating reality that giraffes are facing today. Both the world's first 'giraffologist,' whose research findings ultimately became the foundation for many scientists following in her footsteps, and the species she loves have experienced triumphs as well as setbacks. This film gives viewers a moving perspective on both.

Screening times are 3 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7; 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 8; 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 and Monday, Feb. 10; 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12; and 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13. Admission is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
