‘The Cotton Club Encore’ opens at Cinema Art Theater Oct. 18

Starting Friday, Oct. 18, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “The Cotton Club Encore,” a captivating musical drama that is a new version of the 1984 film that was centered on a 1930s Harlem jazz club.

In this lavish drama, Harlem’s legendary Cotton Club becomes a hotbed of passion and violence as the lives and loves of entertainers and gangsters collide. Now, Francis Ford Coppola’s extraordinary film is brought to vivid new life. Featuring never-before-seen scenes and musical sequences that deepen and enrich the storylines, this remastered and beautifully restored version represents Coppola’s fully realized vision of “The Cotton Club.” Additional scenes include an extended Gregory Hines and Maurice Hines tap performance, Lonette McKee’s brilliant rendition of Ethel Waters’ “Stormy Weather,” Coppola’s originally envisioned ending, and more.

Screening times are 4 and 7 p.m., Friday, Oct 18; 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct 19; 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct 20; 4 and 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct 23; and 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct 24. Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
