‘Jim Allison: Breakthrough’ opens Oct. 18 at Cinema Art Theater

October 17, 2019

Starting Friday, Oct. 18, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Jim Allison: Breakthrough,” an absorbing documentary about a Nobel laureate and renegade scientist who goes against the medical establishment to find a cure for cancer.

Jim Allison is a native of south Texas and an avid blues harmonica player, whose creativity and boundless curiosity about the immune system set him on a trail-blazing path to change the face of cancer treatment. After the passing of his mother at a young age, Jim devotes his life to finding a cure for the terrible disease. Now at 70, this film chronicles a remarkable odyssey of his hard work and the struggles he experienced that led to the Nobel Prize-winning discovery. Stories directly from the man himself as well as his friends are narrated by Woody Harrelson and directed by Bill Haney.

Screening times are 3 p.m., Friday, Oct 18; 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19;  2 p.m., Sunday, Oct 20; 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct 23; and 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct 24. Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online.
