‘Pilots of Pilottown’ author Chuck Mowll to sign books May 20

Local author Chuck Mowll will be signing copies of his new book “The Pilots of Pilottown” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 20, at Browsebout Books, 133 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

Mowll’s book tells how the maritime pilots of Lewes are some of the finest mariners and shiphandlers in the world. Over 90 million tons of goods are imported or exported along the narrow and treacherous waters of the Delaware River each year, thanks to the safe navigational skills of the pilots of Pilottown.

The licensed pilot members of the Pilots’ Association for the Bay & River Delaware facilitate the safe navigation of more than 5,000 massive cargo and container ships each year from the mouth of the Delaware Bay to one of the 12 ports located in Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Attendees can meet Mowll, obtain a signed copy of “The Pilots of Pilottown” and help him celebrate his 74th birthday May 20.

Copies of “The Pilots of Pilottown” will be available for purchase prior to the book signing.
