‘Tarot and Tequila’ cocktail book discussion set July 20

July 14, 2021

The Lewes Public Library’s Cooks and Books program will host David Ross, author of the new illustrated bar book “Tarot and Tequila: A Tarot Guide with Cocktails” for a live, online conversation at 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 20. The event is co-sponsored by Browseabout Books.

“Tarot and Tequila” introduces magical mixology featuring 40 cocktail recipes based on the attributes of tarot cards, along with detailed insights about the pairings. Readers will explore clever concoctions like the High Priestess made with tequila, lemon juice, thyme and seltzer; the Chariot, a tequila version of a Moscow Mule with lemon, beet and apple juices; and more. Ross’ spiritually uplifting drink guide also includes a review of the meanings of all 78 tarot cards, plus new, humorous, tequila-inspired meanings for each.

The event will be moderated by Denise Clemons, Cape Gazette food columnist and author of “A Culinary History of Southern Delaware.” “We have seen all sorts of thematic cookbooks through the years, but this one is completely different. Imagine holding a party where you serve guests tarot-themed, tequila-based cocktails. Accomplished tarot reader David Ross has assembled a lavishly illustrated collection of recipes, each one meticulously paired with a tarot card. This is sure to be an illuminating conversation,” said Clemons.

Ross’ spiritual journey started 25 years ago when he purchased a small tarot deck from a toy store on a lark. He quickly decided he was going to learn about tarot in order to form connections with others and help them progress spiritually. He created a business called Tarot and Tequila, where he reads cards for people in restaurants and bars – or any place that serves tequila.

The discussion is free to the public, but registration is required. To sign up, go to lewes.lib.de.us and visit the Virtual Programs for Adults page.

Participants also are encouraged to support the author by purchasing a copy of the book from local independent bookstore Browseabout Books. Each copy purchased comes with an archival bookplate signed by the author. Orders may be placed online at browseaboutbooks.com, by calling the store at 302-226-2665, or in person at 133 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
