16th Miracle Mile Walk held in Rehoboth

July 10, 2019

The 16th Annual Miracle Mile Walk sponsored by Beebe Healthcare and the Robert & Eolyne Tunnell Cancer Center was held June 15 in Rehoboth Beach.

The Miracle Mile brings together cancer survivors and their caregivers, relatives and friends to celebrate their collective strength, solidarity and resilience.

The walk began with a service at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, featuring speakers and a performance by singer-songwriter from Ocean City, now Nashvile, American Idol Alum Jimmy Charles.

Charles performed his new release “We Are Warriors,” which is becoming the anthem for cancer survivors and their families across the country. Charles has been a Zero Cancer spokesperson and is the president and founder of the I Am Not Alone nonprofit, which provides hope and assistance to survivors across the country.

Charles brought survivor contracts to the event. The contract states, “I promise myself, my family and friends to never, ever give up the fight.”

Miracle Mile founder Arline Simpson spoke at the service. Simpson is a volunteer at the Tunnell Cancer Center and spoke about her experience with cancer and being a survivor for 21 years. “We wanted to show appreciation for the caregivers because without them we would have never gotten through our treatments,” said Simpson.
