For the safety and well-being of all participants, Greyhounds Reach the Beach has been canceled due to COVID-19. The event was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 7 to Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.
“While it is a difficult decision, we feel it is the right one to make at this time,” said Sarah Dougherty, Greyhounds Reach the Beach public relations director volunteer, in an email July 31.
Although the event won’t be happening in person, Dougherty said people can still show their support by helping raise money for participating nonprofit greyhound and sighthound breed adoption groups.
Greyhounds Reach the Beach is an annual charity event celebrating the greyhound breed with the purpose of creating an awareness of the need for adoptive and foster homes, and raising money to support nonprofit greyhound adoption groups.
Greyhounds Reach the Beach turned 25 last year. Traditionally held in Dewey Beach, last year was the first year for the event being in the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.
Dougherty said T-shirts from the 2020 event, designed by Linda Evans, will be for sale in a few weeks. Once available, she said the shirt can be found at shop.grtb.org.
“Thank you for your support during this challenging time,” said Dougherty. “We look forward to gathering for Greyhounds Reach the Beach next year.”
The dates for the 2021 Greyhounds Reach the Beach are Wednesday, Oct. 6 to Sunday, Oct. 10.
