5K for Pumpkin Pie attracts 300 runners

Will Rehrig wins second race in three days

A total of 308 runners sprinted from the starting chute at Grove Park in Rehoboth Beach on Nov. 24 for the ninth annual Huffin’ for Pumpkin Pie 5K and one-mile walk.

Will Rehrig, 25, won his second turkey weekend race in three days, blistering to a 16:01 finish and barely beating John O’Connor, 17, of Pennington, N.J., who ran 16:06.  

Rob Rehrig, 29, Will’s older brother who lives in Chicago, was third in 17:12.

Patrick Beebe, 48, prepped for the Cape class reunion of 1988 by winning the male masters title in 19:30.

Bobby Rehrig, 57, 24:15 and Martha Rehrig, 57, 30:23, joined their fast sons in the race.

Olivia Montini, 14, a Penn Charter freshman from Huntingdon Valley, Pa., was the overall women’s winner in 21:10. Susan Greally, 52, from Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., was female masters champion in 21:16.

Paul Montini, 50, ran 19:58, while Becky Montini, 49, won her age group running 22:51.

Zach Feldman, 9, from Potomac, Md., won his age group in 23:07.

Alex Arnold, 13, 20:43 and Bennett Brumbley, 11, 21:01, went 1-2 in the 10-13 age group.

Teagan Baker, 8, from Lewes won the female 9-and-under age group in 30:07.

Sixteen states were represented in the race.

The 11th annual Rehoboth Beach Seashore Marathon and Half Marathon is set for Saturday, Dec. 8. The 13th annual Run with Santa 5K at the Cape Henlopen State Park fishing pier is set for Sunday, Dec. 9, for marathoners looking for a festive cool-down run.
