Abdominal and pelvic physical therapy lectures to start March 14

February 20, 2019

Excellens Physical Therapy in Lewes will host a series of community wellness lectures on pelvic and abdominal physical therapy.

There are physical therapists who specialize in treating pregnant and post-partum women. Physical therapy can also be a treatment for constipation. Experts will discuss anatomy, physiology, common issues and conditions that are treatable through physical therapy, and what to expect at physical therapy appointments. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and meet one of the pelvic floor therapists. Refreshments will be provided.

Mind Over Bladder: Understanding Pelvic Floor Weakness is set for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 14. This lecture is for anyone wondering what kegels actually are, or those who lose a little urine when they sneeze. Pelvic floor muscle weakness is very common and not something to be embarrassed about. Common problems to be covered include urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and urinary urgency/frequency. Attendees will learn why these things happen, how physical therapy can help, and strategies to try on their own at home.

What To Do When You Can’t Go No. 2: How Physical Therapy Can Help With Constipation and Bowel Health is set for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 28. This lecture covers common bowel and abdominal conditions that can be addressed through physical therapy, such as constipation, fecal incontinence, and abdominal pain following surgery. Attendees will learn about normal bowel function and how problems arise, and how physical therapy can help resolve them.

Pregnancy: A Motherload of Symptoms: How Physical Therapy Can Help is set for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11. Pregnancy doesn’t need to be uncomfortable, and the solution is not to just ride it out until the baby is born. Attendees will learn about how physical therapy can help make pregnancy more comfortable, and resolve pregnancy and post-partum-related issues like pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, urinary incontinence, constipation, C-section scar pain, and neck and shoulder pain. Discussion will include what happens after birth, strategies for lifting one’s new baby, returning to exercise and sex, and what to expect as the body goes through the stages of pregnancy and childbirth.

It Hurts Where?: Demystifying Pelvic Pain is set for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25. Physical therapy can offer help for pain with sex; pain with sitting, riding a bike or driving a car; or pelvic pain for no apparent reason. This lecture discusses different causes of pelvic pain and common conditions that can be addressed with physical therapy.

All lectures will take place at Excellens Physical Therapy, 34434 King Street Row #1, Lewes.
