Adult cats seek adopters at Rehoboth library Oct. 19

October 15, 2019

Cats with various colors, fur types, sizes, voices and stories will be at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19.

What they all have in common is that they are without homes and are older in age. Most of these cats used to be someone’s special kitten, but they grew up and, for different reasons, lost their safe and loving havens.

Usually, the loss of their homes has nothing to do with the behavior or personality of the cats. They still end up in foster homes or adoption programs, or on the streets as strays and colony cats. It is a community problem without enough good endings for the cats.

Older cats are easier to have as housemates because they already know the ropes, such as using the litter box, sleeping on the bed, guarding the home and doing silly things to make humans smile. They are actually just big kittens with longer legs and tails, more fat and beautiful grins. They are incredibly adaptable and do well with senior owners.

Cat rescue volunteers from Just Us Cats, Milton Cat Colony, Coastal Cats and Cats Around Town Society will be on hand to answer questions about the cats and the groups’ successes. Information will be available about the trap, neuter, return population-control programs used in the United States and many other countries.

Donations of old towels, pillow cases and thin polyester blankets will be accepted the day of the event. These items are used in TNR, sterilization, foster and adoption programs. Attendees are welcome to bring cat treats. For more information, call the library at 302-227-8044.
